Types
Commercially-available compost bins come in many shapes or sizes, and
should be selected based on budget, available muscle-power, and
available space. For those that can devote thirty or forty square feet
to a compost area (preferably at some distance from your house), one of
our favorites is the economical 3-Bin Composting System
from Gardener's
Supply. A single bin made of the same vinyl-coated wire is also
available.
Compost
tumblers are more expensive, but require minimal labor, and since
they are more sealed than the wire bin systems, are much more tolerable
close to ones living space. This Back Porch Compost Tumbler is compact and easy to work with. For larger-scale composting, have a look at this Compost Tumbler , which holds more than twenty-two cubic feet of material.
For a new approach to the vertical composter, have a look at the Earthmaker™ Composter .
For storing kitchen scraps headed to the bin, one or two Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail s come in handy.
